The awards will be given to chapters and members who have made exceptional contributions to the mission of BAAC. The information below describes the criteria that will be applied in assessing awards nominations as well as the nomination process.
Recommendations for the award should clearly specify the category of the award and include a comprehensive description of the nominee's accomplishment during the period January 2007 through December 2007.
It is critical that you review and confirm your nominations with your Regional Coordinator before submitting to the Awards Committee. (Nominations submitted will be confirmed with your Regional Coordinator.)
AWARDS NOMINATION PROCESS
The Coordinating Committee's nomination process for the Chapter Award, Distinguished Service Award, and Chairperson's Award is as follows:
- Each BAAC Chapter may submit no more than one nomination per award.
- The Awards Committee will review all nominations for the Distinguished Service Award and may select one person from each region and one person from the Headquarters Chapter. The Awards Committee will review all nominations for the Chairperson's Award and forward the top five nominations to the National Chairperson for final selection.
- If any member of the Awards Committee is nominated for award, he/she will remove himself/herself from that portion of the process.
- All award nominations must be e-mailed to the Awards Committee Chairperson, awards@baac.org
- Nominations must be received by COB April 14, 2008.
DESCRIPTIONS OF AWARDS
CHAPTER AWARD ( up to 5)
The Chapter Award is given in recognition of a Chapter's outstanding accomplishments. Nominations should include a chronological description of chapter's accomplishments, focusing on such things as Bone Marrow Donor drives, community service projects, service delivery initiatives, membership/employee training sessions, fundraisers, commemorative programs, etc. Each nomination will be judged on how well the chapter has displayed the chapter duties as described in the National BAAC By-Laws.
BAAC DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD (up to 11)
The Distinguished Service Award is given in recognition of an individual BAAC member's outstanding contribution(s) to BAAC initiative(s) as the chapter, regional, or national level. This nominee must have participated in BAAC sponsored service delivery, employee career development or minority health activities. The nomination should include a detailed description of how the BAAC member assisted SSA employees, the aged, youth, needy and physically/mentally challenged or advised the African American community about the services available under the programs administered by SSA.
BAAC CHAIRPERSON'S AWARD (1)
The Chairperson's Award is given in recognition of an individual BAAC member's outstanding leadership and for providing assistance and guidance to the chapter or region.
The recipient is selected by the National Chairperson. The following criteria will be applied in assessing this award:
- Dealing directly with the Regional Commissioner's CREO staff, or Executive Staff.
- Providing assistance and guidance to Chapter Presidents.
- Reviewing and resolving issues of concerns and reporting this information to the Coordinating Committee for solutions.
- Disseminating information to chapters or the African American community as directed by BAAC,s National Chairperson and/or the Coordinating Committee.
- Conducting and coordinating studies of SSA information including statistical data.
- Participating in committees, conference calls and/or coordinating regional/headquarters meetings.
